This is an incomplete game jam game.

So, second jam in a row I submit an unfinished project, hopefully this isn't becoming a pattern 😅

Original idea and semi-post-mortem

The initial idea of this game was to let the player be able to take control of caricatures of the party chairmen from all the political parties that just competed in the recently concluded elections in Iceland.

You would control one chairman at a time and compete at pole vaulting (haha, get it, cuz polls/voting) using an intentionally hard-to-control rigidbody character rig.

The amount of seats in parliament would be divided up between the parties proportionally to how well their chairman did. Then after each game, you could see the resulting parliamentary split. I also had the idea of comparing the game's results to previous elections and giving the player an achievement if they got the same result as a previous election.

Creating the rig was simple enough, however, I spent an entire week tearing my hair out trying to make a movement controller that could properly move the character, in a way that worked even just a little bit. Unfortunately, I was never able to get it to work.

I've never worked with 2D rigidbody physics in this way before and I grossly underestimated how difficult it would be.

However, I really liked the idea and the art was super fun to make, even though I didn't give myself much time to make it once I realized how difficult the movement would be. As can be seen in the screenshots, I finished the head caricatures for Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson and Kristrún Frostadóttir.

So I will most likely continue to work on this until I am able to create the game I initially intended for this.
